A month ago, Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool pulled down due to violation of GNU General Public License (GPL) terms. But Microsoft has restored it again and available to download under GPL v2.

Today Microsoft re-released the Open Sourced Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) with source code, that can be found here. The project is being hosted on CodePlex.com.

The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD. The tool can also now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store here.
