On April 14, 2009, Microsoft has cut off mainstream support for Windows XP and Office 2003. Now both products will be moved in the Extended support phase for next five years.

The following Windows XP SKUs are affected.

• Windows XP Home Editions
• Windows XP Media Center Edition
• Windows XP Professional (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
• Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
• Office 2003 Basic Edition
• Office 2003 Professional Edition
• Office 2003 Small Business Edition
• Office 2003 Standard Edition
• Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition

Essentially, Microsoft will offer free security updates for Windows XP Service Pack until 2014. Extended support for both Windows XP and 2003 Office System ends 08/04/2014.
