FIX: Application not found, when click on CD/DVD drive

Probably a program was registered to launch automatically when you inserted a DVD, and that program was removed and when you insert any other DVD and try to launch a program, it prompts “Application not found.”

Its simplest trick that helps to get rid of such problem as well as initialize drive’s (including hard drives and DVD drives) context menu to default.

How To:

1. Run regedit (Registry Editor)

2. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

3. Remove or delete MountPoint2 key completely and close Registry Editor.

4. Logoff or restart your PC to take effect.

5. Now check and double click on your DVD drives. Happy Windows computing.

In device manager, uninstall the drive and reboot. Tried everything else first and either that or the combination of everything else and then that worked.

Hey thanks man, this fix actually worked for me. One of the few times I’ve found a solution online that did so. You just saved me some money that I would have otherwise, probably had to spend on getting a new drive. Cheers!

i do have the same problem almost. i have window 7 and on clicking cd drive its showing the error application not found.i have not deletd the mount point 2 as i fear doing anything in registry keys.. and i have tried almost everything plzzz help me and mail d exact solution..

This fix did not work for me. Nor did any of the others that I found online. Since the trouble seemed only to be an issue with accessing Windows Media Player, I decided to disable it then re-enable it. Success!

Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>Turn Windows features on or off>Media Features>clear the check box for Windows Media Player. After Windows configures the changes and you restart your machine, go back and select the check box again (also select Windows Media Center, if you use it, as it was disabled in the process).

dont delete the whole key.

find the subkey that refers to the invalid file in autorun for the specified drive, in my case d:/go.exe.

delete that subkey.

  Thank`s a lot! I did exact in your advice. In my case was the problem with removable drives G and H. I deleted the subkeys with extensions of these drives “Autorun” and “Shell” . Now I open the drives without this fu… error window!

thx anyway…but after using the method 1 more problem came out “insert a disk” even the dvd have the disk inside then rom
